Abstract Description : As virtual learning becomes a lasting part of K–12 education, the voices of online teachers are essential to shaping its future. Led by a Marie Fielder Fellow and practitioner with over 20 years of experience in K–12 distance education, this interactive session invites secondary online educators to share their real-world experiences, challenges, and insights in a collaborative focus group setting.
Grounded in equity-centered, practitioner-informed research, this session is part of a doctoral study exploring what administrators need to know to better support online teachers and sustain virtual learning programs. Participants will engage in open conversation with peers, reflect on what works—and what doesn’t—and contribute to research that prioritizes educator perspectives over products or platforms.
Your input will directly inform recommendations for leadership practices, professional development, and policy, helping create more supportive and sustainable online learning environments for teachers and students alike.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to share their experiences and perspectives on the supports and resources that impact their success as online teachers.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to collaborate with peers to identify common challenges and propose recommendations for improving K–12 online teaching environments.
