Director Of Online /Virtual Learning Aldine ISD Houston, Texas, United States
Abstract Description : At Aldine ISD, we recognized a critical need for greater autonomy and self-regulation among our online learners. We aim to build skills essential for navigating independent, virtual learning environments. In this session, we will share how we've supported students in developing time management, goal-setting, and self-monitoring abilities. Central to our approach is training teachers to build strong, trust-based relationships with students, creating a foundation for effective coaching and scaffolding of metacognitive skills. Through active learning strategies and personalized check-ins, teachers help students reflect on their progress, combat procrastination, and make purposeful behavioral changes. By fostering inclusive and supportive learning spaces, we celebrate student growth and encourage a culture of motivation and persistence. Participants will walk away with actionable strategies and adaptable tools used in Aldine ISD to enhance student success in online settings.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe how teacher-student relationships can be leveraged to scaffold metacognitive skills and promote student success.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to list key strategies used by Aldine ISD to support self-regulation and autonomy in online learners and demonstrate how they might be utilized with their learners.
