Abstract Description : In an effort to provide flexibility and accessibility for the 21st century learner, Harford County Public Schools (MD) reimagined alternative education with the creation of the 2-12 Blended Virtual Learning Program (BVLP) at Swan Creek School. Following two years of implementation, Swan Creek altered its Hybrid Program to include in-person learning, virtual learning, and asynchronous learning, all in the same week. This session will highlight the redesign of the Hybrid Program, Instructional Strategies and Professional Development, and key considerations/systemic impacts, which have informed current practice. A look at key achievement metrics (attendance, credit attainment, etc.) will be included.

The HCPS Office of Research and Program Evaluation collaborated with school leadership to design a mixed-methods evaluation framework to monitor the implementation and the impact of the Blended Virtual Learning Program. This session will also highlight the key findings/responses contained in the comprehensive capstone research report, which have informed current practice.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to articulate necessary considerations for designing a successful hybrid program, to include weekly in-person and virtual (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe instructional and professional development strategies utilized to best equip teachers to meet with success in a hybrid program.
