K12 Senior Director Academic Services Stride, IL, United States
Abstract Description : Teacher retention starts with onboarding, yet most programs overwhelm new hires with compliance checklists, leaving them unprepared for the realities of online teaching. Stride’s Professional Development team set out to flip this model by creating a sitcom-style New Teacher Onboarding curriculum that uses storytelling, humor, and real-world scenarios to prepare confident and successful new educators.
This session will take you inside the design of this unique onboarding program, which has been rolled out to hundreds of new educators in 70+ schools. Participants will see how the design team created an engaging and scalable onboarding system that combines practical tools with a culture of support. They’ll explore animated storylines, unpack the design framework, and learn how onboarding can be transformed into a retention strategy that builds confidence for new teachers.
Come ready to laugh, learn, and leave with practical strategies to redesign onboarding into a powerful lever for educator success.
Learning Objectives:
Examine the challenges new teachers face in online environments and why traditional onboarding often falls short.
Explore innovative design strategies that make onboarding engaging, effective, and supportive of long-term teacher retention.
