Director, Accelerate ASU High School Pathways Arizona State University Tempe, AZ, United States
Abstract Description : Students with disabilities are too often left out of college-in-high-school opportunities due to systemic barriers and a lack of inclusive design. This interactive poster session showcases how Accelerate ASU’s Universal Learner Courses (ULCs) eliminate those barriers through a risk-free, open access model, and built-in accommodations. Participants will walk away with practical strategies for expanding college access to students with IEPs, 504 plans, or other documented learning needs, without sacrificing rigor or support. Learn how to advocate for inclusive dual enrollment, leverage technology to meet diverse learners’ needs, and design equitable pathways that prepare all students for college success. This session is a must-attend for school leaders, counselors, and special education teams committed to educational equity. Unlike other sessions, this one blends policy, pedagogy, and hands-on tools to transform how your school or district approaches college readiness for students with disabilities.
Learning Objectives:
Identify and explain the key barriers that students with disabilities face in accessing traditional dual or concurrent enrollment opportunities.
Apply inclusive strategies, such as open access enrollment, a risk free environment, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and built-in accommodations, to expand college course access for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and other diverse learning needs.
