Abstract Description : Speaking is often the most challenging skill to develop in world language programs. Fluency is not just another skill, it is the bridge that builds confidence in language learners and opens the door to authentic communication. This PechaKucha session highlights why fluency matters and how it can empower learners across proficiency levels. Participants will explore a simple model for moving from reading fluency to authentic speaking tasks for second language learners as well as heritage and native speakers of a language. Examples will show how tools like Microsoft Teams, Flip, and Padlet can provide low risk opportunities to build oral fluency and vocabulary in language learners. Attendees will leave inspired to make fluency a daily practice in their own programs.
